Sierra Club Award to Pete McCloskey

I got an email tonight that mentions the fact that last Friday evening, the Sierra Club presented Pete McCloskey with their 2006 EDGAR WAYBURN AWARD. The email said that there was no way that Pombo was going to lose if Pete had not run against him. Established in 1979, The Edgar Wayburn Award honors "outstanding service to the environmental cause by a person in a governmental position, either executive or legislative."

Well, it looks like running a good race was enough.

This was not the first time that McCloskey has received an award from the Sierra Club. In 1972, he was a recipient of their Distinguished Achievement Award.

As a decorated Marine Officer, I am sure that Pete would always give the credit to his troops. So, I am sure it is with this. There are a lot of people who did many things. Some enlisted to go along with Pete. Others went with Jerry, but we all met our objectives.

One wonders what McCloskey will do for an encore. For its difficult to imagine him retiring to his ranch!

Will he finish the other job he and his Elders started - doo-ing in Doolittle? Or will he, as someone suggested on this blog a few days ago, move to Merced to take on Dennis Cardoza?

The guy sure has alot of energy.

It is quite possible Doolittle will face charges, and then a special election would be called when Doolittle is forced to resign. I believe that district would be a good one for McCloskey to put his energy, maybe helping Democrat Charlie Brown win the special election.

One thing for sure he's not going to buy my tractor, let's hope he doesn't go looking for some one to run against Mc Nerney. As Pete was telling everyone on our forums that he could not find someone to run against Pombo, in the 11th district. I lived right in Pombo's back yard in Tracy. What in the hell was that about. So as you can see sometimes different things can happen.
If Pete didn't run and I had his 18,000 votes plus my votes I might have been Jerry's opponet. Pombo only received 27,000 overall Petes 18,000 and my 4,200 would have put me at 22,500 to Pombos 27,000 less tha 5,000 votes with spending $1.00 per vote and no campaigning. The bottom line is Pete never went over what Pombo beat him by. 27,000 to 18,000 maybe the people didn't want any part of all three Republicans. Think about that as a second choice.

Monday morning quaterbacking.
