Stockton Record: He’s Your Congressman — Learn His Name

The Stockton Record has not been a friend to its new Congressman, Jerry McNerney (gosh, it feels GOOD to say that). Falling all over themselves and managing to impale themselves in the process, the Record’s editorial board endorsed Richard Pombo a few weeks ago despite SEVERE MISGIVINGS. Well, guys, you should have listened to that quiet little voice that resides inside you. Your readership certainly did.

So here is how the Record describes this morning's election results in a late-breaking article by Hank Shaw and Zachary K. Jackson:
Richard McNerney declared victory at 12:15 a.m. today, leading 52.3 percent to 47.7 percent with 90 percent of the precincts reporting, including 100 percent from San Joaquin County.

"We won this thing. It's ours," he said amid cheers.
Um, guys, RICHARD was your OLD Congressman — JERRY is your new one. Get used to it.

It gets better.

At 7:36 am EST, here's what the Stockton Record's lead paragraph says:

WATERLOO — Democrat Jerry McNernedy announced victory Wednesday over Rep. Richard Pombo in what had been a see-saw electoral battle for most of Election Day. By 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, McNerney led 51.9 percent to 48 percent with 73.2 percent of precincts reporting.

Keep a watchful eye on Rep. Pombo's future opportunities.

He's likely to resurface in affiliation with a group of casino gambling syndicators based out of Detroit and headed by Marian Ilitch -- She and her husband founded the Little Caesars Pizza franchise and own the Detroit Tigers Baseball Team and Red Wings Hockey Franchise. Ilitch arranged to take over controlling shares of Detroit's Motor City Casino in 2005 to help facilitate Kirk Kerkorian's (MGM Mirage) takeover of Mandaly Resorts Group. The Ilitch Clan and one of their operatives, Mike Malik, have been raising and contributing thousands to Pombo and his friends and causes the last two years. They hosted a $5,000 per person fundraiser for Pombo at the 2005 MLB All Star Game in Detroit and have flown him around in their private jets.

The Ilitch plan is to expand their gaming interests outside of Michigan; building a coast to coast empire of commerical and Indian gambling halls.

Among other projects, in 2005 they got Governor Schwarzenegger to buy into their plans for two Indian casinos (Big Lagoon and Los Coyotes Indian Tribes) to be developed in Barstow but failed to get concurrent legislative approval for the agreements in 2006.

The Ilitch organization has hired a circle of political advisors and lobbyists in California who are closely allied with Pombo, Congressman Doolittle and Tom McClintock and they've made significant political contributions to candidates and causes supported by Pombo and their consultants. The same team had previously assisted Ilitch in a failed bid to legalize gambling in Hawaii.

The Ilitch organization has invested too much money developing a relationship with Pombo to simply walk away from him at this point.

He would be a valuable partner in their attempts to syndicate new casinos or at the very least a connected and experienced advocate/lobbyist in Washington D.C., Albany or Sacramento.

The sun rose this morning on CA-11.

It is a beautiful day.

Babaloo, Matt and SNTP crew, it's been so good to work with you. We know how high the mountain was that we just climbed together.

We should never forget that George and Laura Bush personally came to CA-11 to save Richard Pombo.

They failed. They failed because Dick Pombo was a failure of a Congressman, and they failed because we worked our asses off and heroes like Judy and Martha and Vicki and Eden and Matt O and so many others stood firm and believed...but the main reason they failed is because the voters of CA-11 made a choice on Novembr 7th.

The voteers of CA-11, at the end of the day, turned their backs on Bush and gave Richard Pombo the boot. We owe each and every one of them a debt of gratitude.

Thanks you friends. You've done your nation, your district, and this blue planet a huge favor.

We owe to you to make sure that the clean energy developments Congressman-elect Jerry McNerney talked about come to fruition. That should be a task immediately taken up by the entire Bay Area Congressional delegation.

Shaw doesn't know how to spell any word other than Pombo, for his political section.
Or as he calls it his radar. As most of you can see he keeps Pombo on the pages. Lets all help keeping him off the pages. We want the good news that Jerry Mc Nerney brings back to the 11th district.
Keep up the good work.
