NRCC/Pombo Watch

On Monday, the NRCC reported spending another $5,412 for phone banking in CA-11 in opposition to Jerry McNerney, as well as funding their eighth anti-McNerney mailer to the tune of $38,385. On Tuesday, they reported spending $5,541 for further anti-McNerney phone banking. [UPDATE: On Wednesday, they added another $38,475 for their ninth anti-McNerney flier.] Total NRCC independent expenditures to date in CA-11 now stand at $348,108 $386,583. DCCC independent expenditures, still zero.

We all know that Richard Pombo can’t find any actual volunteers to work for his campaign. But frankly, if McNerney is going to survive the onslaught of $5,000-a-day phone banking, progressive activists (that’s you and me) are going to have to step up to the plate in a BIG way.

[UPDATE]: Scott Chacon, who was an early Democratic candidate in the CA-11 primary, is posting images of all the NRCC/Pombo/McNerney campaign literature that he receives on this site. Check it out.

The Tracy Press posted today that Pombo has raised 4.5 million dollars in this race and that Mc Nerney just raised a million. Then it goes on to explain that Pombo had 2.5 million, with the total of 5.5 million between the two candidates. If 2.5 and 1 million equals 3.5 where is the other 2 million. What a bunch of crap. If anyone has the real figures lets get it out. By the way Bush hasn't even been in Stockton yet. Mr. Pombo is in deep do do.

Let me know your thoughts out there.

Mc Nerney all the way.

While it's true that the NRCC has poured a lot of money into Pombo recently, it's also true that Pombo is spending significant amounts of his campaign money on phone banking and other activities that volunteers are doing for McNerney. This volunteering can't really be counted as dollars in campaign contributions.

This fact demonstrates one of the major differences between Pombo and McNerney. McNerney presence and demeanor, along with everything he stands for, attract the volunteers in a way that Pombo - with his demeanor and what he stands for - just can't.

If we could put a dollar amount on these campaign volunteers, it would go a long way in approaching what Pombo has, and that is why I believe this election is winnable. GOD BLESS the VOLUNTEERS!

Meantime, don't think I'm advocating a relaxation in giving McNerney some Love, as we say, I'm not. I've donated to him directly, through ActBlue, and other ways.

AND, I am in touch with the Courtney campaign (CT-02, my district) to volunteer here and do my part in taking back the House.

I would volunteer for McNerney, but gave up long ago on the Demo Hdqts in Stockton. Only an answering machine and no returned calls. Any plans for demonstration for "Bush Breakfast fo Bad Politicians"?

McNerney's Stockton headquarters has been extremely accomodating when I've called. Perhaps you should try again.

I've found the Dublin (Tri-Valley) office to be extremely responsive; maybe you should call there.

Plus, the office is close to BART!
