Finally Some Answers From Pombo?

Do you remember the nice group of constituents who were asking Richard Pombo to explain himself last August?
“I am a life-long Republican who has voted for Congressman Richard Pombo in the past, including the last election, but I need some good explaining from him this year on a series of apparent ethical lapses that he is known for,” said Peter Petroski, a resident of Danville. “I’m joined by more than a hundred others who live and vote in his district to ask him to a public town hall to explain himself.” […]

“Why did Congressman Pombo use taxpayer money for a family vacation in an RV to seven national parks and not pay the money back to the government?” asked Norm Rhett, a resident of San Ramon. “Congressman Pombo needs to explain himself.”
Well, they’re finally in luck. Hank Shaw has this fine bit of information posted on his blog:
This is either the boldest or the most desperate campaign move I've seen in years: Tracy Rep. Richard Pombo just sent out a letter to 11th District voters asking them to call him at his house, so he can personally answer any questions they might have.

Here's the relevant part of the letter:
"I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish for our district.

So if you have any questions for me, please call me, and I will personally answer any remaining questions you may have about any of these issues.

My home phone number is (209) 836-3326.

I truly thank you for giving me the privilege of serving you. I have done my best and would be honored to continue to represent you."
Hoo-boy! Well, just for starters, “Congressman Pombo, why the hell is a congressman from the Central Valley of California getting involved in the issue of commercial whaling off the coast of Washington State? Don't you have better things to worry about?”

Why won’t you debate Jerry McNerney?

Why did you cast the deciding vote in favor of CAFTA?

Why won’t you denounce Dennis Hastert for covering up Mark Foley’s predatory behavior towards House pages?

Does it concern you that the co-author of your book, Joseph Farah, feels that you and your party are unworthy of governing the country?

Why did you take a leave of absence from the House Transportation committee when your district has two of the three worst commutes in the entire Bay Area?

And if you get an answer to any of these questions (or any others), please post the response in our comments section. Then hurry on over to Shaw’s blog and let him hear what you’ve got.

[UPDATE]: This story has been picked up by Jesus’ General, and this is from their comments:
OK... yep... that really is his number & his wife just picked up. (she seem really nice so don't fuck with her).

it's 9:22pm right now & she said that he would be home in 20 minutes!
So be kind — plus if you're really polite, it will make it all the harder to discern questioning Republicans from perturbed independents from hostile Democrats.

I got this on my answering machine the other day, too. I kind of curious where the call actually goes. At least, where it goes now that it's been published in a couple of blogs.

I have seen comments from around blogs that it is actually his house and that his wife was very polite on the phone, saying he would be home later tonight.

My suggestion: "What's it like being in the pocket of corporate special interests? Is it dark in there?"

Those are not answers to the important questions , there just excuses not to answer the questions. Pombo is good at just talking, he tells everyone what the want to hear. That is not giving the answers, the questions are did you take contributions from ...... Did you donate to De Lays defense fund ......Did you contribute the some of $158,000 to more than 7 assembly members the Republican party....... from the Dakota Indians tribes and Centry 21 insurance co. ...... Did you pay a fine to the FPPC for more than $50,000 ............ Did you collect more than $300.000 from the Dakota tribes........How much do you receive from the Marianas deal that goes into Rich pak.............Corrupt is as corrupt does even Forest Gump could figure that out.

Vote Mc Nerney.

In response to a diary posted at DailyKos, reader JTML reports the following conversation with Richard Pombo:

He's answering the phone at 11:20 p.m.

Well, I just called, and he answered the phone after two rings.

I just asked him one question, taken from the Sierra Club fact sheet: Pombo fact sheet.

That question was this: "Which national parks do you want to sell?"

When he denied that he wanted to sell any ("None," he said.), I had a followup: "Which wilderness areas?"

Again, he denied that he would sell any.

Yeah, NOW he says that.

Babaloo: Ask Pombo about the Federal prison property in Tracy that his supporters Ben Rose and others want to build a sports fields and other things. The field is called the ANTENNA FARM formally the FFA towers. This group calls themselves LET THE CHILDREN PLAY. Now why would Pombo be interested in that field, his father owns 90 acres next to the project, thats why. Is that part of his job to make sure that projects are to help his family's agenda, maybe? Is it part of the city's plan to make sure that property gets into the General Plan Hell no. This has been going on for the last 14 years sense Pombo and his group have been in office. Ask him the questions he will tell you he does it for the city of Tracy. Bullshit. He is self serving and corrupt.

Vote Mc Nerney.

An interesting note: If you Yahoo search the number, it returns with 'Richard Pombo for Congres' (sic) with an address of 32221 S Tracy Blvd, Tracy. Not being a local, I can't tell if this is a residential address or not.

My hunch is that his campaign if paying for the number. If so, I wonder how many of his personal bills are paid for by his campaign. Not that it matters, Pombo campaign dollars spent for anything else than his campaign is okay by me. I say, let him pay his wife 100s of 1000s of dollars - those dollars cannot then fund new hits on McNerney. And too bad for his supporters.

PRIVATIZE POMBO!

One of my old address in Tracy was 22935 S Tracy blvd, so if Richards is 32221 S Tracy blvd. That's right. So what? If everyone is asking questions that means they are building a case,to see how much we know. He needs to be put on the stand, under oath. Do you swear to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you God. He needs to do that.
