The Third Way

I have just discovered a third candidate for the 11th CD. Her name is Dina Padilla and she will be running on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket. Dina, like Jerry in 2004, was a write-in candidate during the primary.

Now, the Peace and Freedom Party only as about 550 members in San Joaquin County. So, no one really expects her to win much. However, the very fact that she is running indicates that she sees a ties in between the corporate support for Pombo (and his equally evil twin John Doolittle) and the issues that motivated her to become politically active: corporate fraud in the insurance industry, especially in health care and workman's compensation cases. Note: the link above is a story that relates the fact that the Chair of the Fraud Assessment Commission is in fact the VP of Cost Risk Management for Safeway, Inc., a clear conflict of interest.

If Dina can truly tie this clearly to either Doolittle or Pombo, she is doing us all a very big favor.

She's doing us ALL a huge favor. Now that Jerry has deserted us on Iraq and other core issues, we have a truly progressive candidate to back. We need to get behind her. Jerry "Pombo light" cant win.

What kind of nonsense is this? Sure, anyone can qualify and run, but she has absolutely no chance of winning and a vote for her is a vote taken from Jerry.

Besides, what is a "truly progressive" candidate? I read the "Peace & Freedom" platform, and they should rename the party to "Stoned Old Hippies Party" or "Love, Peace, Drugs, and Sex Party". They take idealism to level it was never meant to go, beyond wishful thinking into absurdity.

A few of their points are okay, but many are idealistic gibberish and the rest are just plain ridiculous. Check out their platform.

Please, Dina, go home and smoke a joint. Sit around the campfire naked and play drums with all those guys wearing dresses. Later, put on your organic hemp clothes and sing "War is Over", and feel all warm and fuzzy about it - but please, don't embarrass yourself by trying to run for office in the real world.

VPO --
I think you may have missed a few salient points here.

"Jim" is just a troll (they're kinda cute when they name themselves) who is hoping to sow dissension among McNerney supporters by asserting that McNerney has changed his position on "Iraq and other core issues." That strategy seems to be all the rage among Pombo trolls these days.

As to Dina Padilla, if you read the link in Delta's post, you'll see that she qualified for the November ballot as a write-in candidate for the P&F Party. To make the ballot, she had to garner the support of 2% of the party's 532 members -- or ten write-in votes. Clearly, she does not represent much of a threat to the major candidates in this race, so it's probably not necessary to go after her in full attack mode -- that is, unless you were hoping to join her by the campfire ;-).

You are right, Babaloo. Her candidacy has very little support. It just irks me when "Peace & Freedom" becomes "Wacky & Silly". Maybe she should partner with that other venerable troll we had for awhile, Manny. He is running for President in 2008. Maybe he needs a running mate??

Besides, I was just having fun with her. Sometimes my joking side can seem harsh when it is meant as fun.

And on that note, where's Rocky and Apollo been? I kind of miss them.

I read their platform and it doesn't sound much different than the progressive democratic platform. They just admit it.

Well, I guess it is good to have a far left candidate. We already have a far right extremist candidate in Pombo. His platform is even wackier and stupidier than the Peace & Freedom bunch!

To vpo,
I don't do drugs or go naked or play drums. Not that that is any of your business. (I decided to run cause I'm against the war just like I was against the Viet Nam war) and the current administration. One doesn't have to smoke hemp or go naked to know the war is inherently wrong. But also, one of the most important issues is that we have a war at home and that people who work for a living are being maimed and killed because corporations like the one Pombo loves, hurts millions of people on the job. He supports big industry and they support him WITH MILLIONS with the likes of William Zachry who is a VICE PRESIDENT for Safeway Worker Comp manangement and an appointed chairman for the FAC-Fraud Assessment Commission for the last 8 years who will not prosecute insurance companies for fraud, but who will go after injured workers who are seriously disabled by giving California county DA'S millions of dollars to do so. It's a conflict of interest so tainted and shameful, it's suprising William Zachry didn't resign a long time ago.
POMBO could care less about the citizens of his district. He's like Doolittle whose association with Abramoff stinks (not hemp smoke either)to the high heavens, but HE IS ingesting something that interferes with his caring for his own constituents and the public lands.
This is why I decided to run. I take everything I do seriously and it's time that there are people in the congress who want to do the right thing rather than stuff their own pockets with tax payers money.

Thanks for the comments, Dina. You are brave to run and take all the abuse that is dished out, whether here or elsewhere. Even if the Peach & Freedom party is a bit too far left for me, it is good have another voice in the ring.

Like I said earlier, we have a far right extremist already in the race (Pombo), so why not a far leftie also? And, even if a bit unrealistic, your platform at least has some humanity and caring in it, in contrast to Pombo's corporate shill agenda.

Well, I guess I maybe a little unrealistic in that everyday citizens are held to a much higher standard while the crooks are getting away with everything. But you know we're all breathing the same air and have the same human DNA. The crooks might have a $ attached to their DNA but we're still all human and nothing is impossible.
MY background is a mixture of beliefs and opinions but I have to say that after being a loyal demo for many years, it left me yearning for people who share a similiar stance of fairness, freedom, individuality and against wars and. The demos are a huge disappointment and many people want change for the better, like me cause I'm tired of the garbage and that I should hope to leave this world a little better place for my children and theirs.
So certainly at my age prospects of standing up to bullies is a great challenge. And they're big considering what they're really after. It's called survival of the human race. AND that's why I jumped in! It's always the little groups who knock the big ones down.

VPO: I thought you were someone who really understood what this game was all about. It might be nonsense to see Ms. Padilla, run but the trend is to the Latino community is getting stronger. People like Dick Montjoy and Ben Gilmore and a guy named Dean have destroyed it for any other minorities like Italians, and Greeks. A letter that was sent to me in 2000 from a office tied to Montjoy's office said quote we don't like Mafia looking type candidates. Even the Portuguese are getting a better deal than the Italians and Greeks. Every now and then an Armenian like Aghazarian slip threw the circle of benevolence. The Republican right so called Moral Majority have hi-jacked the party. A great example is Arnold Blackcorner,

I am not a Latina. I am of Polish ancestry. I'm as white as can be and it doesn't matter to the good old white boys club either because women don't matter to them anyway.. My experiences have showed me that.
My husband and children have spanish blood lines. But even white women have had a hard time breaking into many areas. My family have had a miserable time being DISCRIMINATED AGAINST because of their surname and so have I just for the simple fact I married a latino. How dare I?
I may not have a chance of winning because of me being a woman, being married to a latino and but mostly because of what I stand for. Equate all that and it all adds that the powers to be including current politicians and the media don't want to give me any exposure. The Secretary of State will not put me on the written ballot in November. This was challenged in federal court last Wenesday EVEN THOUGH THE Ca. Supreme Court BACKED PROP60, WE'LL SEE THE OUTCOME.
