Candidate Forum Tonight

Just a reminder for Democrats in Contra Costa County that all three Democratic candidates in CD-11 will be appearing tonight at a forum sponsored by the Diablo Valley Democratic Club. If you still haven’t had a chance to hear Steve Filson, Jerry McNerney and Steve Thomas, well, you’ve got one more opportunity. The meeting starts at 7:00. 55 Eckley Lane in Walnut Creek.

I went to the forum tonight in Walnut Creek. It was pretty good, the candidates all had something good to say. Filson talked a lot about himself and what a leader he is and how he is the "electable" one. Thomas gave a great progressive speech about the need to impeach Bush, among other things. McNerney talked about renewable energy, the economy, and the other issues of the district.

All three candidates seemed good on stage, speaking clearly and forcefully about this positions.

Forum was sparsely attended -- Lisa V from CC Times was there, as were McNerney and Filson campaign people. I don't know if Thomas brought anyone along. Total of about 30 people, including candidates and the Diablo Valley organizers.

So a lot of the same -- Filson claiming the "electable" center, Thomas unabashedly progressive, and McNerney to the left, but nowhere near as much as Thomas. Nothing earth-shattering, but it was good to hear the candidates bash Bush and Pombo and the Republicans.

Bush and Pombo bashing are always nice to hear, but these guys have about as much of a chance of beating Pombo as I do of becoming the Pope. Politically, they're morons.

Embarrassed to be a Democrat in CD-11,

Seth may think these three guys are morons politically, but the endorsements that McNerney and Folson have gotten show that they are not at all morons. In particular, McNerney is growing more astute daily. Let's remember that the House of Representatives is "the people's house" in our democracy and I give McNerney a lot of credit for taking the step of running twice to remove this very poor representative that burdens us today. Filson also seems to be growing more knowledgeable. Personally, I think the most moronic thing those who want to remove Pombo can do is sit in the sidelines this year. Does anyone doubt that McNerney would turn a deaf ear to the concerns of people of this District as Pombo has, and instead embrace a dangerous ideological position that benefits the few at the expense of the many? Actually, this post of Seth's has just inspired me to make another contribution to McNerney. We can't lose our oppirtunity this year to make a change in this CD!

I hear about low attendence at some of these forums, what could be the reason. People don't care from what I see. They are told it don't make no difference what party is in they are all on the take. Let's send a message that just because Pombo takes money from oil interest the rest of us say no?

Tom Benigno "whats in your tank"?
