great work VPO and Matt!
Matt, as you know, I write about Pombo on my blog too. But if this is a scoop, you deserve it on SAY NO TO POMBO, the definitive web site for all things Pombo. Last night I read that whole long drawn out schpiel about Filson's fundraising. I kept thinking, "What's Matt's point here?" Then I fell asleep.
This morning I woke up and found a very interesting e-mail from my pal in DC, Willard, who was responding to my gloom and doom about how the reign of Rahm Emanuel would be the end of the Democratic Party. Anyone who wants to read about how Emanuel is doing his best to wreck challenges from progressive and grassroots candidates, like McNerney-- and put in idea-less and position-less hacks like Filson-- can go to Down With Tyranny. However, something that just happened to be in Willard's e-mail caused me to sit up and take notice. An Emanuel buddy and bagman, a long time associate of his who he installed as treasurer of the DCCC was let go today because he is also a lobbyist (which doesn't look good for the "party of reform"). But this particular lobbyist/DCCC treasurer/fundraiser, one Bill Singer, represents... UNITED AIRLINES!
So, DeLay/ Abramoff-style, Emanuel/Singer have been funnelling United Airlines money to directed, favored candidate(s). How much money did you say United Airlines-related people have been giving Filson? Like I've been yellin' on Down With Tyranny all week, Emanuel is EXACTLY as bad as Tom DeLay.
DWT,
It's an interesting thought, but I think the more likely explanation is that Filson is a United Pilot and the people who've donated to him are his colleagues.
I wonder if him being a United pilot helped him get Emanuel's attention (via Singer)? I mean does anyone know why exactly Filson is even in this race other than having been recruited by Emanuel? Does he have any strong convictions about something?
