Kelpie Wilson Tackles Richard Pombo
Just in case you need another reason to support Jerry McNerney in the CA-11 race, here's a short video presentation that spells out what's at stake in the 2006 election.
A few months ago the folks at truthout, in partnership with Free Speech TV, produced a SourceCode/Kelpie Wilson episode about Richard Pombo and the dire consequences of his tenure in Congress.
If you missed the original broadcast, you can view the program here.

This is odd, I didn't end up seeing this episode before now, but I was there for some of the filming of it. In fact, I have raw footage of the entire interviews of Dennis Del Paine and Sister Judy McDonnell, if anyone wants to see how those clips were cut together.
For what it's worth, this is exactly what journalism should not be. Kelpie Wilson had a very, very specific story she wanted to present and went out to get it. When she was presented with people who did not tell her what she wanted to hear, she tried as hard as she could to put words in their mouths.
The reason these two were interviewed for this is because Margee set it up so we (Margee and I) could go out to interview Sister Judy and Dr. Del Paine to learn about issues in the valley and Kelpie asked to come along. When we got there, she was unbelieveably rude and unashamedly leading in her questioning - she made everyone else uncomfortable. What you don't see in those scenes are a few college students, my wife and I and Margee all becoming uncomfortable at how she was conducting these interviews.
Sister Judy had fascinating stories of her work in South America, immigrant rights, naturalization issues, etc - all Kelpie was interested in was "how can you phrase that so we can blame Pombo for it?" I don't remember being so mad at someone as I was at Kelpie for being so self-centered and pointedly misleading. I also can't imagine being more ashamed of myself that I didn't stop it - Sister Judy obviously didn't much care about Pombo and certainly didn't personally blame him for any of this - eventually Kelpie was able to drag a "we found very little support from Pombo" from her, but that was only in the face of intense pressure. I think my wife Jessica and I both personally apologized to her after the interview for the conduct of Kelpie.
Don't get me wrong, I want Pombo gone as much as the next guy - I think I've put a fair amount of time and effort into it, but this was ridiculous and unneccesary. There are perfectly valid reasons he is a terrible and ineffective Congressman - the interviews with McCloskey and Margee in the same video demonstrate that. Those worked because they knew what she wanted and already agreed with it - but I would never trust anything that comes from Kelpie if I were you. She is not at all objective and she is not interested in anything but her predetermined goal.
If anyone is interested, I will cut the interview footage I have with Sister Judy and Dr. Del Paine showing just what they said and not what someone wanted to get them to say. If people are interested in what the rest of us present at these interviews were there for - to learn about issues in the San Joaquin valley and how we can address them, not dripping with blind partisanship, I'll put some time in and put those online.
Scott,
Thanks for the great comment. I am growing more afraid each day the campaign theme emerging against Pombo is designed by outside the district groups determined to create a fictional character to drive up membership and fundraising rather than winning elections.
If we are going to defeat Pombo it needs to be based on fact. I hope this changes.
Yo Mr Chacon.
Rocky here. Finally anudder guy on dis friggin blot willin to use his real name. Like Rocky.
Anyways, about dis goil named Kelpie. Are you sure dat's her real name? She sounds like a piece of seaweed to me. I mean she could be postin under an alien like damn near everyone else on dis friggin blot.
